When I was working for a printer company in Makati, we also had a communal place, there was a microwave, several plates, mugs and utensils that anyone can use, dispenser of hot and cold water, instant coffee, juice powder and biscuits.

There was a time the admin questioned why the juice and coffee were always consumed too fast. There was no email but the admin requested through word of mouth to try to make the monthly supplies last.

We also practiced individual tidying up. You clean the plate, mug and utensils you use and put them back in order. It was acceptable and everyone followed.

In my other workplace, there is a sign that says something like this: "This is a self-cleaning kitchen so clean up your mess." Not the exact words though. Plus, those food in the fridge are not being eaten by those who don't own them. Sometimes the food gets spoiled if the owner forgets that he/she put something in there. Siguro iba talaga mga teachers, laughix

This may seem cruel but a friend once told me how one of their classmates (they were then student nurses) kept drinking from everybody else's juice, milk or water. Name labels and handwritten warnings didn't work until one time, they put a few (non-lethal dose) pills of diuretic. The filching never happened again.

Pag communal property, this petty wranglings are inevitable. But in the case of our staff lounge (equipped with microwave, fridge, toaster, etc.), each of us has his/her own locker where we store our Starbucks mugs or Noritake plates or Roger's silverware. Tapos, kanya kanya ding hugas. So we avoid getting into each other's throats.

Pero sa fridge, kanya kanyang label: do not touch, this leche flan is arsenic-laced. hahaha

It must be an english thing, writing emails like that. the newly-bought microwave at the office is causing a stir because of all the "polite notices" email.

That would have been practically using up all the available milk and a little inconsiderate.

Talking about kitchen posts, we had one in our faculty lounge which I consider to be very clever. It said:

"Judas messed up the last supper. Don't be Judas, clean up your mess" Witty diba?
