06.Jundoes it work?

I’m so busy now that I hardly have time to bloghop, but I thought I’d share this one first before I disappear.

London 2012 unveiled the Olympic’s official logo the other day. Can you believe this graffiti icon cost us £400 000??

I have yet to read any positive remark about this “art” besides the committee’s & the design consultant’s bravado. They both claim this represents “hip London”. The dailies have been carrying alternative logos sent it by readers and their kids! One paper even went as far as rearranging the lego like pieces.

Hubby hates it. I don’t like it either. I was expecting something cute (and cuddly?) like previous Olympics’. How about you? Does this icon make you think “ohh Olympia”?

auee, honestly, a big NO. i don’t like it. it looks like a house that collapsed.

how did they arrived at that logo? maybe there’s an explanation/ symbolism for the image.

  2. MM Del Rosario Says:

same here it looks like a t-shirt pattern to me, it doesn’t look trendy to represent ‘Hip London’ is this one official na ba?

  3. auee Says:

hi feng… Naku they even hired design consultants ha. They wanted to project that a “young, hip” London. Ewan ko kung may magh-hire pa sa consultants na yun after this botched job.

hi mm… Yup it’s official. The first sponsored advertisement has already been printed (Lloyd’s TSB) during the “unveiling”. Nakaka-disappoint talaga.

  4. JO Says:

i guess we will just have to get used to it… anyway 2012 is still far, so people might get used to it before the Olympics.

  5. sheilamarie Says:

auee, it does look bad, doesn’t it. it’s so plain and lifeless =P i’ve read several negative comments about it as well. what the heck were they thinking to come up with this. to me, it has nothing to do with being hip at all. LOL!

  6. auee Says:

hi jo… i’m not so sure they will, I think this will just be a white elephant in their “hosting” history. Something the media will dredge up now & again – forever.

hi sheilamarie… the London Mayor and some MPs are asking for this icon to be removed & replaced, so there might be hope yet

Its like a blurred image of a jig saw puzzle.

Hi Auee. When I linked to your site and saw the pic I first thought it was a game. Like brainteaser or something. I read your later post first before getting to it so I was surprised that its a logo pala. Suffice it to say, I hate it. Makes me want to rearrange the pieces.

  9. auee Says:

hi febeth… it took me a whole minute to “see” what it’s supposed to be. First impression was really WTF?!

hi Scrooch… thanks for coming back. Actually that’s what people here are doing, making fun of it by re-doing the pieces hehe

  10. AnP Says:

it looks a lot like one of those awful graffiti plastered on the side of dingy buildings. awful!

  11. auee Says:

hi melissa… no one likes it. I don’t know how the commission’s going to survive this.

  12. BatJay Says:

pinagtawanan yang logo na yan sa daily show ni john stewart kagabi. yung animated version daw causes seizures.

    bwehehe.

  13. auee Says:

Ka batjay!! Wow I’m honoured by your regal presence hehe

Nag-apologize nga yung olympic committee. Pero di daw nila fault dahil may advisory daw sila about the “flashing images”. They’re talking about suing the stations who televised the show without warning. Marami daw inatake ng epilepsy.

  14. Christianne Says:

Very weird, I had the same reaction as you when I first saw it. It takes a few seconds to recognize the numbers.

  15. auee Says:

hi Christianne, numbers ba yung shapes? hehehe Kitams talagang ang gulo. I was only able to make out the shape of a body posing to “run”… a ewan.
